Live on location again!
From Bauerfeind Life Magazin
OTWorld is the leading international trade show and global convention for prosthetics, orthotics, orthopedic shoe technology, compression therapy and rehabilitation technology. In 2022, it will again take place as an event with personal attendance from May 10 to 13: as usual, at Leipzig Trade Fair grounds. In his interview, Trade Fair Director, Martin Buhl-Wagner, explains what makes OTWorld so special.
life: Leipzig will stay the location of OTWorld until 2036. The contract with the German Association for Orthopedic Technology (BIV-OT), the perfect supporter of OTWorld, has been extended. What significance does OTWorld have for Leipzig Trade Fair?
Buhl- Wagner: With its unique combination of being a leading international trade show and global convention, OTWorld has great meaning for Leipzig Trade Fair. Thanks to the contract extension, we can meet the requirements that arise from this role and continue to be a reliable partner even in difficult times. The extension also reflects the great trust between the industry and Leipzig Trade Fair as well as the clear commitment to the continuing expansion of this event’s leading position.
Why was it important for the trade show to take place virtually as OTWorld.connect in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Buhl-Wagner: With this digital format, we wanted to provide a central platform to foster dialog and innovation in 2020 as well, especially in light of the increased need for exchange and guidance due to the pandemic. For us, it was the perfect opportunity to introduce new digital innovations. The success of OTWorld.connect with 4,500 people accessing the convention and more than 15,000 accessing the media library was a real confirmation. Not letting the event take place wasn’t an option, neither for us nor for the industry.
Which new digital concepts and elements will there be at OTWorld 2022?
Buhl-Wagner: OTWorld.connect showed us that nothing can replace a face-to-face event. But it also became obvious that we can expand on-site events using many digital elements. OTWorld 2022 will therefore have digital product and exhibitor features, as well as a new OTWorld app, the Innovation Talks format and a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).
How important do you think OTWorld 2022 will have as a face-to-face event?
Buhl-Wagner: Feedback from exhibitors and visitors indicate clearly: everyone is longing for personal reunions and is looking forward to discussions at professional levels. And that’s best when people meet in person. It’s the only way of finding out and discovering something new and unexpected you may not have even been looking for. That’s the unbeatable advantage of events with personal attendance.
What response have you had from the exhibitors, what are the highlights for the visitors?
Buhl-Wagner: As of mid-January, exhibitors from 27 countries as well as numerous international joint stands have registered to be a part of OTWorld 2022. This year’s trade show fully focuses on the individual and providing optimized, individualized care. We’ve also got the World Congress, special product exhibitions, the Digitalization Forum as well as the Industry Forum. All visitors can look forward to a well-rounded package consisting of medical science, trade and industry.
