Pregnancy
Bauerfeind moves you during pregnancy
With medical products that combat typical symptoms associated with the time before and after childbirth

Typical symptoms associated with pregnancy
Pregnancy poses particular challenges for the female body because of hormonal changes, weight gain, and altered statics. Problems with the back, pelvis, or venous system are common. They need to be recognized early and assessed on an individual basis.
Medical products, such as braces or compression stockings can – with a clear indication – provide targeted relief and support patient mobility. The following applies: The product is supplied based on need and must supplement conservative measures, such as exercise and physiotherapy. The objective is to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life in the long term during pregnancy.
Lumbar orthosis
Spinova Mum – triple action brace
The pelvis and sacroiliac joints are subjected to severe stress during pregnancy and childbirth. Because of the growing baby bump and the increasing weight, the center of gravity shifts and the lumbar spine is subjected to additional strain. This can trigger painful dysfunctions and is intensified by the loosening of the ligaments due to hormonal changes.

Lumbar spine lordosis reduction
Tensioning straps and corset stays counteract a hollow back using the three-point principle.

Stabilization of the pelvis
A padded strap system surrounding the pelvis stabilizes the sacroiliac joint and relieves the symphysis. Backward tilt of the pelvis reinforces lordosis reduction.

Relieving abdominal lifting
A flexible strap lifts the belly, helping relieve the back (back muscles). Maintains the freedom of movement of mother and child.

Compression
Varicose veins, edema, nausea
During pregnancy, hormonal changes, the increased blood volume, and the pressure of the growing uterus exerted on the pelvic veins can impact venous return. This can result in varicose veins (pregnancy varicosis), heavy legs, swollen feet, and a feeling of tautness. Oftentimes, these symptoms reduce partly or completely after giving birth.
During and after pregnancy, medical compression stockings support venous return and can reduce heavy, aching legs as well as swelling. In addition, they help with thrombosis prevention and are recommended from the beginning of pregnancy until postpartum regeneration – in particular following a C-section (Interview with Prof. E. Schleußner in Bauerfeind life June 2020).
Furthermore, studies show that medical compression stockings can reduce the deterioration of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and the development of varicose veins during pregnancy (Saliba et al., 2020). A clinical study conducted by Mendoza & Amsler (2017) also indicates that wearing compression stockings can alleviate nausea and vomiting during the early stages of pregnancy.

Hand orthosis
Irritation, swelling, carpal tunnel syndrome
During pregnancy, hormonal changes and water retention can lead to swelling and irritation in the area of the hands and wrists. This can cause carpal tunnel syndrome, for example, where pressure exerted on the median nerve results in pain, tingling, or numbness. Most often, these symptoms occur at night or in the morning.
A hand brace, such as the ManuLoc, can stabilize the wrist and immobilize it in a relieving position. This reduces pressure on the irritated structures and the median nerve, which can alleviate problems like pain, tingling, or numbness. At the same time, finger mobility largely remains the same.
Foot orthoses
Aching feet
The structure of the foot usually changes during pregnancy. In the early stages in particular, the height and stability of the medial longitudinal arch reduce. The length of the foot also increases.
“Individual consideration is key. Early treatment can be beneficial for patients with symptoms or functional anomalies – during the early stages of pregnancy in particular because that is when major structural adjustments happen. In order to prevent long-term problems, a qualified footwear consultation and regular monitoring of the foot development can help. A generalized prophylactic treatment of all pregnant women is currently not justified based on evidence.”
