Key element in the treatment of hip problems
Non-interventional study using the CoxaTrain brace
From Bauerfeind Life on 07.02.2025

Effective conservative treatment strategies for osteoarthritis of the hip are key for patients because joint replacement, in cases of osteoarthritis of the hip for example, is only indicated in the final stage. Possible treatment can include hip orthoses, such as the CoxaTrain. A current non-interventional study with 57 patients taking part highlights the clinical outcome of the brace for patients with regard to pain reduction, joint stability, and mobility:
Significant pain reduction
Patients reported an average reduction of their pain by 47.7 percent. This represents a pain reduction from 6.5 to 3.4 points on the 10-point VAS scale. Furthermore, almost half of all those taking pain medication were able to reduce the amount taken during treatment.
Improved mobility and stability
Another key result of the study is the improvement by 71.4 percent in mobility. When using the brace, patients were able to increase their pain-free walking distance by 61 percent. At the same time, many test subjects stated that they felt more confident and stable when walking – on even as well as on uneven ground. When taking the stairs and during everyday activities, the brace also provided more stability and freedom of movement.

Positive effects on everyday activities
The results also show that everyday activities were much easier when the brace was being worn and while patients were subjected to low levels as well as high levels of strain. Gentle activities were perceived as 35 percent easier on average, while the performance of challenging tasks was 41 percent easier. This means that the brace can significantly promote patients’ independence.
Very high level of wearing comfort and no side effects
70 percent of patients rated the handling of the CoxaTrain as easy to very easy. The brace was also rated very highly in terms of wearing comfort: skin friendliness, breathability, and weight were given values between 2.3 and 2.4 on a scale of 1 to 6, with 1 being the best and 6 the worst. Encouragingly, no undesirable side effects occurred during the entire study, which additionally highlights the safety of this treatment option.
Conclusion: An innovative component during conservative treatment
The results of this non-interventional study substantiate that the CoxaTrain brace represents an effective and safe alternative for the conservative treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip. Not only does it provide significant pain reduction but also improves mobility, stability, and patients’ quality of life.

Service information
The CoxaTrain brace relieves hip pain, reduces muscular imbalances, and provides the joint with stabilizing guidance when walking. The pain-relieving effect of the brace and its positive influence on the wearer’s gait support movement treatment for osteoarthritis of the hip, rheumatoid arthritis or impingement syndrome. If required, the flexion and extension of the hip joint can also be limited.
