The best of two worlds

“ErgoPad ID: Core X” orthopedic foot orthoses

From Bauerfeind Life Magazin on 28.10.2020

Story Check With the ErgoPad ID: Core X, Bauerfeind is currently launching a new foot orthosis that features a supporting core as well as an individual soft cushion layer.

  • The combination of the two tried-and-tested foot orthosis technologies is suitable for many applications.
  • With its variable support, the weightflex synthetic core helps with the stabilization of the longitudinal and transverse foot arches and its firm and flexible elements support the natural torsional movement of the foot.
  • Bodytronic ID:CAM allows quick, digital modeling of customized foot orthosis topographies – supported by comprehensive template libraries. Foot orthoses can be ordered right from within the system and will be delivered within 48 hours.

A thin, self-supporting core combined with a customized, digitally modeled soft cushion surface: weightflex meets ID:CAM. With “ErgoPad ID: Core X”, Bauerfeind is currently launching a new generation of foot orthoses where two tried-and-tested technologies have been combined – creating a new offer with comprehensive advantages for orthotists and patients.

Messen, verkleben, beschleifen – im Fachgeschäft übernimmt der Handwerker das Finalisieren und erstellt aus den einzelnen Komponenten Schritt für Schritt die fertige Einlage.
Measuring, gluing, grinding – at the medical retail store, the craftsman takes over the final phase and gradually creates the finished foot orthosis from the individual components.

Our feet compensate for unevenness and keep the body in balance. The cushioning, arched design of our feet is responsible for this. Through a combination of longitudinal and transverse arches, a spiral-shaped union is created in the foot. This structure ensures particularly high stability when subjected to strain and flexible lightness when walking.

Activating foot orthoses support
in cases of misalignment

Modern-day environmental influences, such as hard floors, tight shoes or unphysiological movements result in our feet decompensating. The system loses stability. As a consequence, the heel bone may tilt inwards. If this condition persists for an extended period, the medial ligament structures become excessively stretched. This may lead to arch decreased feet, followed by flat feet. The existing muscular hypotension should be treated by toning the muscles. In addition to physiological treatment, wearing activating foot orthoses is recommended.
The new “ErgoPad ID: Core X” foot orthosis combines the best of two worlds: weightflex core technology with computer-aided milling technology provided by Bodytronic ID:CAM. This combination produces foot orthoses that have a positive influence on the functional spiral dynamics of the foot and feature a customized cushion layer structure.

weightflex: releasing tarsal tension
and improving the gait pattern

The four side sections of the “weightflex-X” integrated in the orthotic core vary in elasticity to restore the lost dynamics in the foot. These side sections also offer different degrees of firmness, enabling them to generate an exchange of force during movement, which has a positive impact on the tarsus’ mobility. This interaction ensures an assisted resetting of the muscles as well as the connective tissue. Thanks to its biomechanical properties, the patented synthetic core allows a natural heel-to-toe movement and improves the gait pattern. Moderate longitudinal and transversal arch supports also raise the feet, provide stabilization and reduce unphysiological strain. The core is available in “soft”, “medium” and “strong” to match the severity of the insufficiency of the foot arches, treatment goal and strain, such as body weight, regular additional weight or activity level.

ID:CAM: made-to-measure,
computer-aided soft cushioning

The “ErgoPad ID: Core X” is completed by adding the individual topography of the soft cushion layer. In the Bodytronic ID:CAM web application, orthotists have a comprehensive digital tool box at their disposal for modeling. This toolbox enables a precise adjustment of the multi-layer design to meet the patient’s requirements, for example, to reduce shock loads, improve pressure absorption and redistribution or to optimize movement sequences. Technicians model the cushion layers online and order them right from within the system. The company’s own models can be edited and stored at any time, and completed foot orthoses can be saved for documentation purposes. The type of material can also be adapted to customer needs. High-quality, biocompatible materials with one or three layers are available. When working with Bodytronic ID:CAM, the orthotist benefits from a clear and intuitive user interface as well as a personal model library. Manufacture carried out using Bauerfeind’s extended workbench allows a guaranteed delivery of custom-made foot orthoses within 48 hours.

An all-round talent for versatile use

Thanks to the high level of adaptability of the supporting core and milled soft cushion layer, “ErgoPad ID: Core X” can be used for practically all diagnoses. For this premium segment foot orthosis, the biomechanical properties of a standard product were harnessed to create individual custom-made solutions. Whether for athletes, patients in pain, children or for feet subjected to a lot of strain during everyday activities – application is extensive, and the medical product can be modeled quickly according to customer needs using state-of-the-art technology.
