Anyone who uses GenuTrain, GenuTrain A3, GenuTrain P3, or GenuPoint now receive a treatment app along with their knee support. The app, which is recognized as a medical product , can be used by patients to help them perform specific exercises.

Bauerfeind is thus using digitization to support personalized medicine with clear treatment benefits. All patients who use GenuTrain, GenuTrain A3, GenuTrain P3, or GenuPoint now receive the Bauerfeind treatment app along with their medical aid. The app ensures users can independently perform exercises with their knee support on anytime with the help of instructions from the app.

The therapy app was presented to the public for the first time at this year’s OT World in Leipzig.

Designed to address individual situations

The app creates a personalized training program for patients on the basis of the knee support being used, the diagnosed indication, and the current level of pain. This process is repeated before each exercise session begins. Sessions run between 15 minutes and a maximum of 25 minutes. Patients use the app to view videos of a professional trainer who leads them through the exercises (see interview on the right).

Safe, evidence-based exercises

The digital product extension for the knee supports is designed to assist physicians and physiotherapists, who were also involved in its development. The digital app encourages patients to be active by enabling them to achieve the independence they wish to have during the rehabilitation period – i.e. they can exercise and train whenever and wherever they want to.
The app developers focused heavily on safety. Users are provided with clear, unambiguous, and evidence-based instructions when they perform their exercises, just like what they’re familiar with from physiotherapy sessions. They can also consult their physiotherapist if they have any questions. If they have questions about their diagnosis, the treatment app advises them to get in touch with their physician.

Recognized medical product

Along with providing information on exercises and medical conditions, the app also offers input on the Train support being used. Patients are given instructions on how to handle and care for their product and also receive basic information on how it works and which treatment approaches it supports. The exercises and movements the app suggests are what enable it to achieve its proprioceptive-stabilizing effect. The new Bauerfeind treatment app for knee supports is a recognized medical product within the meaning of Directive 93/42/EEC.

The treatment app stands out through easy to understand exercises, targeted information, and continual follow-up monitoring.
