“A breakthrough in patient compliance”

Innovation in knee treatment: SecuTec Genu Flex

From Bauerfeind Life Magazin on 21.03.2024

In short Dr. Michael Nager, Medical Director at Orthopädiezentrum München City, describes the flexible SecuTec Genu Flex frame brace as a “breakthrough” for the treatment of knee injuries, adding: “At our practice, we are extremely interested in effective innovations.” His aspiration: everyone in the team should have in-depth knowledge of medical product ranges and their effectiveness to ensure that patients receive the best possible treatment. The SecuTec Genu Flex has won over the experienced orthopedist with the following in particular:

  • significantly more flexibility during movement, thanks to its mobile Flex-Links, also known as Flex-Modules
  • high level of compliance in patients who appreciate the product’s wearing comfort, its light weight, and easy handling during donning and doffing
  • non-slip secure positioning on the leg

“We are constantly looking for innovations,” says Dr. med. Michael Nager, explaining the vision of his practice in Munich, Germany. The orthopedic specialist was immediately convinced by the new SecuTec Genu Flex. His first experiences with the flexible frame brace confirm high levels of compliance in functional therapy.

When patients enter the stylish premises bathed in light in the heart of Bavaria’s capital city, Dr. Michael Nager believes they should expect state-of-the-art medicine. And the Medical Director at Orthopädiezentrum München City MVZ is committed to meet these expectations. “At our practice, we are extremely interested in effective innovations,” says the orthopedist and specialist in trauma surgery, sports medicine, chirotherapy, acupuncture and osteology. That is why the flexible SecuTec Genu Flex frame brace immediately caught his eye as a tool for knee treatment. “I was convinced by the brace right away, even when I held it in my hands for the first time. It clearly stands out from conventional standard solutions,” highlights Dr. Nager. “The product is lightweight and provides enhanced wearing comfort. Our patients neither have pressure points nor do they complain about the product slipping.”

Comfortable protection

As opposed to conventional hard-frame braces, the SecuTec Genu Flex dynamically adapts to the anatomy of the leg, thanks to its lightweight plastic frame. It consists of unique mobile Flex-Links, also known as Flex-Modules, at the thigh and lower leg. They conform to the leg’s changing shape during movement, ensuring the stabilizing brace remains securely in position and fits comfortably. The adaptive fit of the SecuTec Genu Flex provides comfortable protection for knee patients who may need temporary external stabilization according to the 4-point principle, following injuries or because of severe instabilities.

„The brace clearly stands out from conventional standard solutions.”

Dr. med. Michael Nager

Just like Benjamin Goller, who has come the practice in Munich for a follow-up visit today. When lifting a server rack weighing 20 kilograms a few weeks earlier, the IT specialist twisted his knee, dislocating his patella. He now suffers from severe instability. Since it was a first-time injury of this kind, without major cartilage damage, he was treated conservatively. The frame brace with limitation option that Benjamin Goller was given after three weeks of immobilization was too tight, quickly causing massive foot swelling. Fearing thrombosis, he went to see Dr. Nager after ten days to get a second opinion. The physician associated the complication with Benjamin’s brace and prescribed the SecuTec Genu Flex instead. Benjamin’s condition improved immediately: “After one day with the new brace, the swelling in my foot had reduced significantly,” the 23-year-old reports in relief. He highlights the low weight and easy handling of the SecuTec Genu Flex: “It can be donned incredibly quickly. You just slip it on, and you’re done.”

Benjamin Goller wears the SecuTec Genu Flex for stabilization after a patellar dislocation that was treated conservatively.

He also appreciates that its fit can be adjusted along the healing process. Dr. Nager observes that Mr. Goller is currently experiencing muscle atrophy, which is typical for this injury. However, as he recovers, he will start developing muscles again. According to the specialist, it is therefore convenient that the brace can flexibly support different phases of muscle wasting and rebuilding muscles in the thigh and lower leg, thanks to the Flex-Links that can be individually removed and added.

“The fit is relevant”

Most patients who received a prescription of the SecuTec Genu Flex by Dr. Nager do not have direct experience for comparison as Benjamin Goller does, but they have accepted the brace very happily, just like he has. “It’s suitable for all types of ligament and meniscus injuries that we treat functionally in a post-operative or purely conservative setting,” the physician summarizes. He finds it essential that his practice team also becomes thoroughly acquainted with the specifics of medical aids and is familiar with the entire product range. He and his colleagues prescribe the SecuTec Genu Flex by name, with precise specifications for the limitation. During follow-up visits and subsequent appointments, his employees act as points of contact and also check how the specifications on the prescription were implemented, and they may point out if a product does not fit properly (any longer). “The fit is relevant. For effectiveness and compliance. That’s part of our patient service and ensures quality,” Dr. Nager explains.

Customized limitation

The knee brace is a component of personalized treatment that is designed to help patients get back on their feet. The entire range of functional therapy also includes physiotherapy or osteopathy, in some cases also subsequent compression. Dr. Nager recommends wearing a frame brace like the SecuTec Genu Flex for at least four to six weeks. The limitation is individually adjusted over the course of treatment and successively removed as quickly as possible. Sometimes, an extended protective period is beneficial for the healing process and for the patient’s peace of mind, as the orthopedist has discovered in his many years of practical experience. If patients are happy with the wearing comfort, and they accept the brace, which has been the case with the SecuTec Genu Flex without exception in his practice, the wearing period can be extended. “This new brace is a breakthrough in patient compliance,” the physician summarizes and adds: “To be honest, I wish I had thought of this product design myself.”

From rigid to flexible with the SecuTec Genu Flex

The SecuTec Genu Flex stabilizes the knee joint according to the 4-point principle. Its lightweight plastic frame consists of unique Flex-Links, also known as Flex-Modules, at the thigh and lower leg. They are flexible in the direction of movement and tension-stable in the direction of therapeutic action. This means the brace provides reliable protection that adapts to the anatomy of the leg during movement.
Orthotists can add and remove the Flex-Modules without the need for tools over the course of treatment, thus matching the frame to any fluctuations in volume in periods of muscle atrophy or development. More information.
